US TAXMAN TURNS TO ENCORE COMPUTER’s MULTIMAX TO RUN ITS ORACLE DATABASE

By CBR Staff Writer

The US Internal Revenue Service has gone to Encore Computer Corp for a Multimax 120 parallel Unix system to be used to run an automated income validation application. The system, already installed at the IRS Service Centre in Ogden, Utah, is part of a pilot scheme. The system uses the Oracle Corp relational database, and Encore puts the success of its sale largely down to the Oracle database, saying that it has a great commercial presence and sees it becoming a significant factor in the sale of Encore systems.
