US SUMITOMO ERT LAYS OFF 100 EMPLOYEES

As a result of losing a patent infringement suit brought by Corning Glass Works, Sumitomo Electric Industry’s US Sumitomo Electronic Research Triangle subsidiary, which has only just begun manufacturing optical fibre, has had to lay off 100 of its New York factory staff and is considering laying off its 50 researchers out of a total staff base of 300.
