Skokie, Illinois-based US Robotics Inc is shipping new features for its Courier V.Everything/V.34 modems, including Caller ID, Carrier Loss Redial, Distinctive Ring and support for Microsoft Corp rather less than sparkling Plug’N’Play initiative. In addition, the Courier is now shipping bundled with Stampede Remote Office Gold Client software to enable simple, seamless connections. It is claimed to offer local network connections with the same functionality as locally connected local network users. Remote Office Gold supports Point-to-Point Protocol connections, dial-on-demand and remote control capabilities. V.Everything users can download the new features from the company’s bulletin board at no charge. The enhancements are included in all newly shipping Courier V.Everything products. The list price for the external version is $400 with the internal version costing $345 and the PC Card version $375. In addition, the company has announced the availability of its new Courier products for the Macintosh market. The Courier I-Modem with ISDN/V.34 for Macintosh is an external device, listing for $700. Designed for both ISDN and analog applications, it is an ISDN terminal adapter that includes an integral modem with all the features of the analog V.Everything product. Its Universal Connect feature automatically identifies the equipment on the remote end of the connection and transparently makes the highest speed, ISDN or analog, connection. The external Courier V.Everything for Macintosh lists for $400. It includes V.34, for speeds up to 33.6Kbps, Caller ID, Distinctive Ring, Carrier Loss Redial and Dial Security including Dialback.
