US Robotics Inc has two new low-end routers – the LANLinker 56 and LANLinker BRI designed to access local area networking to remote offices and the Internet. LANLinker 56 enables users to access corporate networks and the Internet via a Frame Relay or PPP point-to-point connection; LANLinker BRI supports an ISDN connection, and also comes with an analog device port. The two routers can be configured via a Windows-based wizard or the command-line interface. The wizard asks the user to key in answers specific to the application; armed with that information, the LANLinker will configure itself to suit the particular program, company officials said. Both products are stand-alone units that support local network to network routing of IP, IPX and Appletalk protocols simultaneously. All other protocols are bridged. Multilink PPP is supported for network data links over ISDN connections for speeds of 128Kbps, and both inbound and outbound connections are allowed over both B-channels. LANLinker 56 has a list price of $1,000; LANLinker BRI is $800. Both products are shipping immediately.
