Modem manufacturer US Robotics Inc’s spending on research and development so far this year is 85% ahead of the year-ago period at $11.3m, chief financial officer Ross Manire said: for the first six months of fiscal 1994, which ends September 30, the modem manufacturer earned $12.2m, 75% ahead of the year-earlier period; Manire attributed recent gains in revenues to the company’s participation in the retail sales of its Sportster modems; for the first six months of the fiscal year revenues rose 142% to $173.3m; he said the introduction by US Robotics of wide area network hubs also helped growth.
