US POSTAL SERVICE TO START TESTS OF AUTOPOST

By CBR Staff Writer

The US Postal Service plans this year to start tests of Autopost, a device similar to an automatic teller machine that will automatically weigh a piece of mail and tell the user how much postage is needed, and when cash is put into the slot wull delivers the appropriate stamp, change, and a receipt; and Infopost, an automated voice system that will answer questions about the mail – in both English and Spanish – and deliver a printout: our resident New York cynic adds that for true authenticity, it, rather than the user, will choose which language to respond in – just like the human Post Office tellers.
