Coinciding with the Federal Communication Commission approval of a standardized television rating system in the US, Parental Guide Co is to launch a technology that will help parents monitor the television content their children are watching. The technology is based around the Violence chip or V-chip which fits inside a television set. A process of coding and decoding enables the prevention of screening that is deemed to be unsuitable. The chip can be programmed to screen out programs that have been made specifically for television, either via an age-based or content-based system. Now the FCC approval has been passed, Parental Guide is able to license its V-chip technology to all television manufacturers in the US. Congress has authorized that new television sets over 13-inches must contain V-chips by next year.
