With names such as Thomas Edison, Louis Pasteur, the Wright Brothers, Alexander Graham Bell and Henry Ford among its 68 members, the US National Investors Hall of Fame is a pretty select gathering, and we congratulate Dr An Wang, founder and chairman of Wang Laboratories that this Sunday, he will join their number: Dr Wang is being inducted into the Arlington, Virginia Hall for his 1948 invention of the pulse transfer controlling device that enabled the use of magnetic core memories in computers – vital to the industry up to the mid-1970s, but little used any more.
