US MARSHALS SWOOP ON SOFTWARE COUNTERFEITING OPERATION

Microsoft Corp reports the largest-ever seizure of counterfeit software, in which Microsoft representatives and US Marshals impounded more than 150,000 copies of MS-DOS version 5, representing a street value of more than $9m: the raids, exposing a suspected massive counterfeiting operation spanning the US from California to New Jersey, saw no fewer than 16 18-wheeler trucks loaded with the fake packages of MS-DOS 5 and kit used to make them, and stocks of manuals, floppies, holograms and packaging from U-Top Printing Corp and a Berkeley commercial printer that supplied U-Top with the manuals.
