US GOVERNMENT TO BLOCK SALE OF MONSANTO ELECTRONIC TO WEST GERMAN FIRM

The black armbands and Haydn may have been premature and the last major US maker of silicon wafers, Monsanto Electronic Materials Co may not be sold to the West German firm of Huels AG after all (CI No 1,087): the sale may be blocked by the US government on national security grounds – and Haydn? C’mon, you know, he was the guy who liked the dire melody of God Save the King so much that he wanted to write something like it for his native land and came up with a tune he called Austria, to which Germans like to sing the words Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles.
