As part of the ongoing lawsuit over Java, the US Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit will hear oral arguments from Microsoft Corp and Sun Microsystems Inc next Wednesday, June 16 1999. Sun maintains that Microsoft breached its contractual obligations by shipping implementations of Sun’s Java technology that were incompatible with Sun’s own. Last November 17, a US Judge Ronald Whyte awarded Sun an injunction, requiring Microsoft to change all shipping products to comply with Sun’s compatibility tests within 90 days. Microsoft is appealing that injunction. A panel of three judges has been selected to hear the appeal. They are Robert Boochever, Cynthia Hall and Mary Schroeder.
