The US Semiconductor Industry Association’s book-to-bill ratio fell again in August and remains below the magic break-even point at 0.94, compared with 0.96 last month. August orders on the traditional three-month moving average were $1,205.5m, down 2.5% from the July figure and were 1.2% down on the figure one year ago. Semiconductor shipments on the same three-month moving average fell 0.6% to $1,277.3m compared with the July figure but were up 4.2% from the August 1990 figure; actual shipments for the month of August were up 5.3% on the July figure and 0.9% on the year-ago figure at $1,240.1m. The book-to-bill figure for June has now been finalised and remains unchanged at 1.01.
