The US administration has taken on board research that suggests that restrictions on technology exports to Comecon has cost its industry billions of dollars in lost business without preventing the technology reaching the Eastern bloc, and is seriously considering relaxing the restrictions, trade representative Clayton Yeutter said in Brussels this week; and the UK Department of Trade & Industry is asking UK-based companies affected by the existing CoCom rules to submit proposals for amendments or relaxations – the CoCom regulations on exports to the Comecon countries come up for review in the autumn.
