By CBR Staff Writer

About 31% of the US consumers have purchased tablet computers during the third quarter (Q3) of 2012 when compared to 14% during the corresponding period in 2011, according to a new report.

Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) 19th Annual CE Holiday Purchase Patterns Study revealed that two-thirds of online users are planning to buy a tablet in the future, while 45% planning to purchase one during the next two years.

The report also revealed that showed mobile connected devices have been the most wanted gifts on adults’ overall holiday wish lists this season, with tablets at the leading position.

CEA senior research analyst Kevin Tillmann said the tablet market continues to see incredible growth and is showing no signs of slowing down.

"We expect tablets to play a big role in the upcoming holiday shopping season; not only in sales but also in complementary purchases such as accessories and gift cards," Tillmann said.

Primarily tablets are used for entertainment activities, while watching movies has been the most popular use of a tablet.

During the quarter, messaging jumped to the second most popular activity, switching over the social networking, which fell to fourth position.
