Consumers in the US spend more on PC accessories than on the PC itself, according to IDC’s Beyond-the-Box survey, which indicated that consumers have spent $1.05 on PC accessories and peripherals for every $1 spent on a PC in 2009.

The PC accessories market maintained its growth momentum, despite the reducing prices of PCs in 2009, the survey revelaed.

According to IDC, US consumers will approximately spend $28.6bn in 2010 towards enhancing their PC performance and user experience, with anti-spam and security software topping the products list.

In addition, to enhance the PC performance consumers will upgrade graphic cards and additional memory and storage, along with media creation products and software, IDC said.

The survey also revealed that PC users have moved towards cloud-based activities and Web-centric environment and productivity-based activities have taken back seat with US small businesses spending $2.7bn on ‘Beyond-the-Box’ products, forming 24% of their computer shopping budget.
