UNIX MOTOR SPORTS

Unix gets in on all sorts of unlikely acts these days, and lingering disputes and political difficulties permitting, Alain Prost and Damon Hill will be contesting the Formula 1 World Motor Racing Championship over the next nine months in Canon-Williams-Renault cars benefitting from technical assistance from Compagnie des Machines Bull SA: Bull is again supplying the telemetry system that collects data from all parts of the car, transmitting it to the pits throughout the race, and in addition, this year, the company has developed the computer system for the Renault Sport Engine Test Beds, consisting of three DPX/20 Rios RISC Unix servers and three STX/Indigo workstations, for a system that enables the mechanics to test the engine in a simulation of race conditions without the car leaving the workshop.
