Seems we should not be surprised: Unix System Laboratories says it’s close to a deal with Apple Computer Inc for a licence to the Macintosh interface. Others say Apple’s Enterprise people have been shopping the thing for a while to insinuate the Mac further into the corporate environment. Notice, however, that it isn’t the Apple-Taligent effort or even Apple Advanced Systems that is spearheading the effort. Critics say the technology is 1980s passe and not for Unix and that it would take a great deal of engineering to make it suitable for modern enterprise-wide object-oriented client-server applications.
