University of Glasgow selects SolidWorks 3D CAD software

The department of mechanical engineering at the University of Glasgow has purchased 200 licences of SolidWorks Education Edition software to hone the skills of students in 3D CAD designing.

By CBR Staff Writer

SolidWorks Education Edition will enable graduate and undergraduate students at the university gain experience in product development from designing to prototyping and testing. The edition’s pre-packaged coursework, curriculum and student certification platform support everything from lesson planning to assessment.

Marie Planchard, director of worldwide education markets at SolidWorks, said: Teaching SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation effectively gives students an advantage when applying for engineering jobs.

The department, in association with the Glasgow School of Art, will teach SolidWorks 3D CAD and SolidWorks Simulation design validation software in the Product Design Engineering degree programme.

Graham Green, senior lecturer in engineering design, department of mechanical engineering at the University of Glasgow, said: Undergraduate and postgraduate taught degree programmes impose a challenging range of demands on the 3D CAD software used by the students. An additional challenge is provided by the needs of students taking our joint course in Product Design Engineering, taught in conjunction with the Glasgow School of Art. Only one piece of software fully met the challenge: SolidWorks.

SolidWorks reseller TMS CADCentre will provide ongoing software training, implementation and support to the university.
