The University of Leicester has announced that it has rolled out free WiFi across its entire campus.
Provided by The Cloud via 500 access points, the WiFi will cover 69 locations and can be used by all guests, visiting lecturers and prospective students and their families.
Users will now be able to go online quickly and easily – allowing access to the University of Leicester app, plus online tools including educational resources and social media.
University of Leicester visitors only need select ‘The Cloud’ WiFi network and register to then have access to any of the WiFi provider’s 22,000 UK hotspots.
"As a large university with a constant stream of visiting alumni, guest lecturers, prospective students and other visitors, providing WiFi is essential to meet today’s expectations. Connectivity is expected from all our visitors and we are meeting this need," said Daniel Lawrence, Deputy Director of IT, at the University of Leicester.
"We all live in a mobile-first world and institutions like the University of Leicester are responding by providing WiFi access across the entire campus." said Roger Matthews, Commercial Director at The Cloud.
"Being able to use the internet wherever you are on campus seamlessly is expected. This is vital for visitors. For example imagine a prospective student at an open day – access to a mobile campus map, or information about different faculties will help them feel more comfortable with the university and what it has to offer. "
