United Telecommunications Corp and Bell Canada International Inc have signed a $30m joint venture to set up a mobile telecommunications project in China, the China Daily said. The venture between the two firms and Shandong Hehua Electronics Informat ion Group will set up a Groupe Speciale Mobile network covering Jinan, Zibo and Weifang in eastern Shandong province. With a cooperative term of 15 years, the venture is expected to complete first phase construction in three years with an installation of 50,000 telephones, it said. Bell Canada will be responsible for 80% of the investment with Shandong Hehua the balance.
