Unisys Corp has won a contract with the UK’s Inland Revenue, who are to take a 50,000 user license for its Unisys Single Point Security software, managing access control and security adminstration. Unisys won the contract through Electronic Data Systems Corp, which won a major outsourcing contract from the Inland Revenue three years ago. The software will give UK tax inspectors access to over 300 applications via a single password, running on ICL Plc and IBM Corp mainframes as well as Windows NT and Unix systems from various vendors. Tax inspectors will be able to handle a wider variety of queries through using the software, Unisys said. The value of the contract wasn’t revealed. The security software is part of Unisys’ ManagePlus systems management toolset. Installation began in March and the project is expected to be rolled out to 38,000 users by the end of 1998. It’s the largest single point security win for Unisys to date, and, according to the company, one of the largest single sign-on security implementations in the world.
