Unisys wins $63m UK local government contract

Unisys' UK arm has won a five-year $63m outsourcing contract from Kent County Council to create and manage a public information network and security service until late 2012.

By CBR Staff Writer

The company will provide managed services and all associated hardware and software. It will design and implement a state-of-the-art wide-area network built on a Cisco backbone. The company will also manage the WAN that will operate as Kent Public Service Network, KPSN.

It said the network will connect approximately 1,100 public-sector establishments, including schools, council offices, and libraries. It will provide added bandwidth to deliver a variety of shared information services to Kent County Council, Kent Schools, Canterbury Council, and Thanet Council.

Paul Carter, leader at Kent County Council, said: We chose Unisys because of the company’s experience in delivering high-quality, innovative services to clients, as well as the breadth of support and management expertise the company offers. We expect the network’s benefits in collaboration, governmental linkage and common shared infrastructure will result in enhanced public services for the people of Kent.
