Unisys has unveiled the MicroEX, a new model to the SmartSource Micro Series line of multi-function remote deposit scanners. The announcement was made at The Association for Work Process Improvement’s TAWPI 2009 Forum & Expo.

Unisys claims that the new MicroEX adds full-page imaging capabilities, with a scan height from 2.13 inches to 8.5 inches and a length from 3.15 inches to 13.98 inches.

The SmartSource Micro Series offers enterprises to deposit checks from their offices directly into their bank accounts, the company claims.

Unisys said that the SmartSource Micro Series scanners are USB-powered, requiring no additional external power source. These scanners use optical character recognition technology to read the magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line on checks, to allow for processing.

Reportedly, both the Micro and MicroEX models image in a duplex mode, capturing both the front and rear sides of a document with one pass. The scanners are compatible with Silver Bullet’s Ranger interface and are TWAIN-compliant.

Alan Howard, president of Unisys Payment Systems, said: The response to our SmartSource Micro Series scanners has been so positive that we felt it was important to round out the product line with a similar scanner that could image full-page documents.

“The MicroEX is a perfect fit for small-business customers and consumers who occasionally need to archive full-page documents but don’t want to devote scarce desktop space to a flatbed scanner.
