As reported in CI No 1,512, Unisys subsidiary Timeplex Ltd, has acquired Doelz Inc of Irvine, California on undisclosed terms. Unisys already handles 60% of Doelz’s distribution and Timeplex says Doelz was acquired for its network management and fast packet/cell relay technology, which will contribute to the development of Timeplex’s next generation of products. Timeplex will support the Doelz packet switching product line, which are designed to operate at low speeds of around 56Kbps with a cell relay architecture. Timeplex has simultaneously announced product enhancements and an ISDN gateway server for US users. On the product development side, Link+ multiplexers are to have increased bandwidth utilisation through an 8KHz analogue and digital voice compression as well as a frame relay overlay. The Time/View 2000 Network Management System has been implemented on a Sun Microsystems Sparcstation which Timeplex reckons speeds up throughput by around 30%. Lastly, the Time/Lan 100 range will now support Token Ring, Ethernet and Fibre Distributed Data Interface connections at forwarding rates of 9,000 packets per second with six ports. Support has also been added for Xerox Corp’s XNS, Novell Inc’s IPX/SPX and the Open Systems Interconnection routing protocols.
