UNISYS SETS BIG UK PUSH FOR UNIX BOX

By CBR Staff Writer

Unisys UK is planning a ‘substantial’ below the line and above the line marketing drive to push its new 80386-based U6000/50 Unix box (CI No 908). It plans advertising campaign in trade and business journals across Europe, and intensive training courses for users and support staff at its 250-student residential International Training Centre in Milton Keynes, and to expand its UK third party sales channel. It looks for the 6000s to be about 40% of its Unix business this year with 30% for the 5000s against 90% last year, and aims for 20% of the UK Unix market share by 1989. Unisys Unix sales tripled to $100m in Europe last year, and it claims 4% of the UK market, 25% in Spain and strong sales in the Swedish, French and German markets.
