The US heavyweights suddenly fear that they are missing an opportunity in the notebook personal computer market, and while IBM cosies up to Go Corp, which is working on a machine that will accept handprint data entry, Unisys Corp has chosen Santa Clara-based Dynabook Technologies as its partner and mentor. Unisys has entered discussions with Dynabook on a technology exchange and joint product development agreement, but no further details were given. Dynabook – no connection with the Toshiba Corp notebook computer that is sold under that name in Japan launched its Dynabook 286 to wide-spread plaudits last summer (CI No 1,212), but has not made much impact in the market.
