Unisys Corp reports from Blue Bell that Telecom Corp of New Zealand Ltd is the latest phone company to opt for its A-series mainframe-based Unisys Network Applications Platform under a $4.4m contract as the first step in enhancing its soon-to-be deployed Intelligent Network: the Network Applications Platform provides the Linc development environment and a common user interface for all the services that customers will receive, and implements X400 and X500 protocols to network messages between Telecom’s voice messaging customer base and the rest of the world; the system manages as many as 11,700 simultaneously accessible message ports and accommodates some 1.6m voice mailboxes; Telecom, with about 1.4m lines, expects about 50,000 subscribers to use the Message Center; applications for the system will be developed in Wellington, North Island by Unisys-owned systems integration company SynerCom Pty Ltd.
