Unisys Corp duly pleaded guilty to charges of bribery and influence peddling at the former Sperry Defence Systems and agreed to pay criminal and civil fines of up to $190m, the highest ever imposed in such a case: Unisys pleaded guilty to eight counts of bribery, fraud, submitting false claims and making illegal campaign contributions, and investigations against individuals are still not completed; nearly half the settlement is contingent upon Unisys asset sales and profits through 1997 and could be waived if the company loses money during that period; the settlement also requires Unisys to pay $54m in cash over the next five years, with $6.3m due in 1991, and give up an estimated $46m in profits on a government contract for a radar system being built in Canada and Alaska.
