Unisys Corp’s new ClearPath HMP models, which mix and match the iAPX-86-based Windows NT symmetric multiprocessing nodes with A Series or 2200 mainframe processors in one box, will be fitted with UnixWare by the end of the year. Performance of the TCP/IP link connecting the mainframe to the iAPX-86 nodes will be updated to use a lighter version of the stack initially before memory buses are joined by an unspecified shared memory device next year. Unisys said that it gave up trying to implement NetWare networking in its MCP mainframe operating system – it has implemented Windows NT Server Message Blocks and is adding Messaging Application Programming Interface – because it found what Novell Inc supplied was always a release behind the current technologies.
