The Sperry side of Unisys Corp, Blue Bell, Pennsylvania has added a new DCP/25 model to its family of DCP communications processors for Unisys 1100 and 2200 mainframes and the System 80. The company also announced a new DCP line module capable of supporting T-1/E-1 data rates and it claims that over five years, a user that has both IBM and Unisys machines can save between 15% and 40% over five years with the DCP processors and ILM 20-HS modules compared with the IBM alternative. The DCP/25 can handle up to 184 lines and is twice as powerful as the previous entry-level DCP, the DCP/15. DCPs can be configured as front-end processors, remote line concentrators and nodal processors in a pure Unisys or in multi-vendor networks. For the latter, the DCPs are compliant with lauers one to four of the Open Systems Interconnection reference model and can concurrently support TCP/IP; SNA PU Types 2, 4 and 5; asynchronous and Unisys DCA. The ILM-20 line modules operate at up to 1.544Mbps and 2.048Mbps, and are claimed to require less power and fewer slots than other line modules. The line model options include four HDLC full-duplex line interfaces with an aggregate data rate of up to 2.048Mbps. Prices begin at $31,000 for the DCP/25, and the four-line ILM 20-HS cards are $12,500, now.
