Unisys Corp duly took the lid off its 12-way Aquanta XR/6 enterprise server (CI No 3,369). The Aquanta brand has incorporated all of Unisys’ systems with ten processors or less, and were formally known as ClearPath 61000 (CI No 3,154). To reach 12 processors Unisys has stretched its 533Mbps SCM system bus to support up to 12 200MHz Pentium Pro chips. It will cost from $60,000 and runs NT, Unix SVR4 MP or UnixWare. Meantime, a study conducted for Unisys by French company Sofres Intersearch claims the percentage of mission critical applications deployed on NT will triple to 39% by 2002 from 12% now. Proprietary and Unix systems will account for one third and a quarter of mission critical applications respectively. The company says 46% of the 300 senior IT decision makers in America and Europe respondents said they’d started mission critical NT implementations while a further 29% will have started by the end of this year.
