UNISYS HAS NEW RELEASE OF 2200 OS

By CBR Staff Writer

Unisys Corp has upgraded the System Base Release 1 operating system for its new low-end 2200/220 small mainframe so that it supports all of the features and peripherals supported by 1100/OS, and in the new release, customers can bundle all the 1100/OS options they want, where previously these had to be bought separately. SBR 2 supports three and four processor configurations of the 2200/200 CPU, SNA Advanced Program to Program Communications; and support for a wide range of 1100 peripherals. The new release also supports the New Programming Environment, which enables programs in Pascal and Fortran to use features of the new CPU, and the Shield PC Console user interface, designed to make the 2200 easier for novices to use. The new release has an initi al licence fee of $1,322 in the US, and a monthly charge of $444, and the price includes some support.
