UNISYS ADDS NEW DATABASE RELEASES WITH 2200-400 MODELS

By CBR Staff Writer

Unisys Corp duly announced its slimline mid-range 2200-400 processor family yesterday (CI No 887). The entry level 2200/401 is about 2.5 times the power of the 1100/71 and the 2200/600 offers nearly four times the power of the 1100/74; a five-fold performance range is available within the system cabinet. It also supports up to 64 input-output channels, against 56 on the 1100/70, and operates in an office environment. The firm accompanied the announcement with new releases of its DMS-1100 Codasyl and RDMS-1100 relational database management systems. It also announced a 20% price cut on the low-end 2200-20 models in the US. UK prices for processor complexes range from UKP160,000 for the 401 uniprocessor with 16Mb and console, UKP850,000 for a six processor configuration. Separately, Xyvision Inc, Wakefield, Massachusetts announced that Unisys Corp is to market Xyvision’s Integrated Publishing System in Europe and Africa under a five-year non-exclusive OEM agreement. Xyvision’s UK subsidiary and European distributors will continue to market the line.
