Unisource Carrier Services (UCS), a subsidiary of Unisource NV, has launched an ATM Backbone Network between Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Madrid and Stockholm to offer customers international services and applications over the same centrally-controlled network, the company said. A further extension of this ATM-based service platform to Paris, Milan, the USA and other major business centers is expected by the end of 1997. A large part of the capacity is reserved for the internet traffic but the company said because of the flexible bandwidth allocation, ATM technology allows for any combination of services to be implemented. UCS has also introduced a new service, Internet Transit, which gives service providers access to European and transatlantic networks. Unisource Carrier Services AG is a pan-European network operator providing international telecommunications service like Switched Services, Managed Bandwidth Services and Internet Services. The Unisource partners, Telia AB of Sweden, Koninklijke PTT Nederland NV and Swiss Telecom, announced earlier this month plans to merge their services operations into a pan-European wholesaler.
