Hemel Hempstead-based Uniplex Ltd, the IMI Plc subsidiary, yesterday duly unveiled onGO, its revamped object-oriented office automation software for client-server environments. OnGO, originally codenamed Nouveau, will initially comprise two components: onGO Office and onGO Write/Paint/Draw. OnGO Office is the core element of Uniplex’s client-server architecture and provides enterprise-wide network and mail communications, with X400 mail manager, X500-based routings and gateways, TCP/IP and open systems interconnection support, a calendar manager and a set of object libraries. OnGO Office also interfaces to Novell Inc’s NetWare, facsimile and telex. Uniplex will provide application programming interfaces and gateways to ensure links for existing Uniplex software, the firm says. OnGO Write/Paint/Draw is an object-oriented WYSIWYG editor that incorporates both desktop publishing functions and a word processor. It comes with its own desktop, file manager, print system and document converters and is available stand-alone or mail-enabled as part of onGO Office. OnGO is initially available on Data General Corp’s AViiON Unix machines and IBM Corp’s RS/6000s – support for Hewlett-Packard Co, Sun Microsystems Inc and Digital Equipment Corp workstations will follow. It comes with front-end clients for IXI Ltd’s X.desktop, OSF/Motif and Microsoft Corp Windows 3.0. Set for release in the third quarter, onGO Office is UKP250 per user, onGO Write/Paint/Draw costs UKP300. Uniplex says it plans to introduce document management, information access and active integration management modules in 1994.
