The Uniform Driver Interface Initiative has now released the 0.90 version of its UDI Specification for broad public review. UDI is intended to establish a common specification for device drivers so that they will run across multiple computing platforms and operating systems without modification. Adaptec Inc, Compaq Computer Corp, Hewlett-Packard Co, IBM Corp, Intel Corp, the Santa Cruz Operation Inc and Sun Microsystems Inc are among its members. Currently, itÆs primarily a Unix industry initiative. The 0.90 release is functionally complete for storage and networking adapters. There now follows a two month review period which ends on May 31.
