The Penril Datability Networks unit of Gaithersburg, Maryland-headquartered Penril Datacommunications Network Inc, has announced Constellation, a single software architecture for BRX bridge-routers. The software is written in C to make it easy to integrate into other architectures, and the company says that Constellation provides multiprotocol concurrent bridging and routing at wire speeds, is configurable through a menu-driven, context-sensitive system, removing the need to know complex commands syntax, and supports Simple Network Management Protocol network management. Penril says that Constellation, available now, can route TCP/IP, IPX, AppleTalk Phase II, DECnet, Open Systems Interconnection and Xerox Network System, and provide support for industry-standard routing via Open Shortest Path First, RIP, EGP and HELLO. On the local area networking side, it is said to support Ethernet, Token Ring and FDDI interfaces, while wide area network support is offered via Point-to-Point Protocol, HDLC, X25 and Frame Relay.
