Buoyed by the success of its Unicenter TNG (The Next Generation) systems management suite, Computer Associates International Inc has been telling Wall Street all about a new version due in April called Unicenter TND (The Next Dimension). As expected (CI No 3,315), TND uses the artificial intelligence technology from CA’s December acquisition of the 20-person AI Ware Inc. CA told Morgan Stanley Dean Witter TND evolves Unicenter toward a more proactive systems management product. It will supposedly learn and monitor system environments automatically and optimize performance based upon the information. It’s due to be on show at CA World this spring. The company also plans to cut some enterprise features to create a ‘lite’ version of Unicenter for small customers that it will put through its Cheyenne reseller channel.
