UNICEF has teamed up with Target to develop a kid-friendly fitness band in an effort to combat obesity and malnourishment in children.
The fitness wearable is a part of Target’s health and wellness-focused new campaign and the UNICEF Kid Power program, and is supported with a mobile app.
For general fitness purposes, the bands encourage children to stay fit and active, encouraging them to earn points which can then be used to forward food packets through UNICEF to children in developing countries.
The device will allow the kids to keep a track of their movements and steps, which will be translated into points that can unlock food packets.
The app also presents challenges before the kids with ‘missions’ allowing them to know about other cultures and earn additional points.
With each purchase of the band that costs $39.99, Target will contribute $10 for therapeutic food packets that will be sent to malnourished children.
