Taking a leaf out of its parent’s book, Tandem Computer Inc’s Ungermann-Bass unit has launched a Fault Tolerant Power Supply, designed to protect critical enterprise networking applications by providing continuous power to all modules within its 11-slot Access/One smart wiring hub. The system is aimed at environments such as stock exchanges and banks, which cannot tolerate any down time. Ungermann claims the fault tolerant supply means that no single failure in the power supply will interrupt power to the hub. It uses load sharing to distribute the current equally between two modules and if one fails, the other immediately takes over – there is no downtime as in a redundant environment where one power supply is idle until the primary supply fails. The modules also feature hot-card insertion, so the user can replace a power supply module without interruption to the network. No prices.
