Tandem Computers Inc’s San Jose, California-based local networking hardware specialist Ungermann-Bass Inc has announced a combination of local bridge-routers. The new Access/One Plus Multiport Ethernet Bridge/Router ASM5330 is a four-port bridge-router designed to support over 4,000 active devices simultaneously. The Access/One Plus FDDI Ethernet Bridge/Router ASM5361 combines bridging and routing in a single FDDI RISC-based architecture. Multiprotocol simultaneous bridging and routing of up to five different protocols. The ASM5551 is touted as a cost-effective hub-based bridging system for Token Ring networks, including segmenting rings to address performance, security or organisation needs or attaching departmental rings to a backbone ring: it can interconnect two 16Mbps or 4Mbps rings. The Access/One Plus Multiport Ethernet Bridge/Router ASM5330 is priced at $8,500. Prices for the Access/One Plus FDDI Bridge Router ASM5361 begins at $16,000 and the Access/One Local Token Ring Bridge ASM5551 is priced at $3,900.
