UMAX WANTS TO DO 50,000 TO 70,000 MAC CLONES NEXT YEAR; US IN PLAN

Umax Data Systems Ltd, only the fifth announced Mac OS licensee and Mac clone system builder, is initially licensed to market its machines in Asia (CI No 2,794), but will be allowed to bring them to the US later. Highly ambitious, it is budgeting to sell between 50,000 and 70,000 next year. The other licensees are Power Computing Corp, Radius Inc and DayStar Digital Inc in the US and Pioneer Electronics Co in Japan. Bandai Co Ltd is licensed for the cut-down Pippin version for the fun-and-games world.Umax, which sells scanners, software and motherboards, will get boards from Power.
