UMAX DATA TO COMBINE US MAC & SCANNER SUBSIDIARIES

By CBR Staff Writer

Taiwan computer manufacturer Umax Data Systems Inc is to combine its two US subsidiaries, the Macintosh cloner Umax Computer Corp and the scanning and imaging operation Umax Technologies Inc. The combination will go under the name Umax Technologies and sell the combined product lines. The unit, whose MacOS license is good until July, is currently test marketing Intel-based PCs in the US. It will have systems, notebooks and communications divisions for the network computers, min-web servers, rack mounted switches and Ethernet cards it began showing off last year (CI No 3,253). An expanded manufacturing group will use the Umax Computer Corp name.
