UMAX COMPUTER CUTS PRICES ACROSS ITS MAC CLONE LINE

Umax Computer Corp, which has its US base in Fremont, California has bust the low-end Macintosh pricing model wide open with a new SuperMac C500/180 with a 180MHz PowerPC 603e, 16Mb memory, an eight times standard speed CD-ROM player, 1.2Gb disk, keyboard and mouse but no screen. at an estimated street price of $1,350 and a $50 manufacturer’s rebate for a limited time. It also cut prices across its existing product line by 7% to 20%, so the the SuperMac C600/200 at 200MHz is now $1,800, and the dual processor SuperMac S900/200 is now $4,500.
