Ultra Network Technologies of San Jose, California has been selected by NASA to supply a key upgrade to the communications plant for the Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation Facility at the Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California: the five-year contract has an initial value of $2.2m with a potential of up to $5m, and Ultra’s Gigabit-per-second UltraNet will network the resources of five buildings across the Ames campus; eight UltraNet 1000 Hubs will provide high-performance connections to a Cray 2 and a Cray Y-MP, via Ultra’s HSXnp Adaptor, an Amdahl 5880, via an 8-way striped BMCup adaptor, and a Thinking Machines CM-2, via Ultra’s HIPPInp Adaptor: in addition, 40 Silicon Graphics and two Sun Microsystems workstations will initially be on the UltraNet network.
