As Google launches its virtual tutoring service, Helpouts, in the US, a UK startup has already been offering a similar service in Britain.
LearnCliki pairs learners with tutors to learn new skills for work or leisure, ranging from how to code to how to play the guitar.
The lessons are conducted through a webcam and all sessions are recordable to play back later, after the startup saw the opportunity more than a year ago.
Students are also able to rate lessons, which contributes to tutors’ reputations on the site, while all payments are handled through PayPal.
MD Patricia Koch said: "We wanted to provide learning solutions for people from people. So it is right to say, just as Google is proclaiming; "From real people for Real people in real time" – this is exactly what we’ve been doing.
"Most of our tutors are happy to give the customer a free 15 min teaser session before they commit – and with a 100% money back guarantee for our customers everyone wins."
"So, it was a little daunting at first to think that after six months of being the only fish in the pond a big American player has now joined the buzz. But, where others might see problems LearnCliki see only opportunities."
