UKP300M UK DEFENCE MINISTRY OFFICE PROJECT FINALISTS TO BE ANNOUNCED TOMORROW

By CBR Staff Writer

After a four month delay, due apparently to an over optimistic schedule (CI No 908), the UK Ministry of Defence says it is now ready to decide on the two consortia that will be given the go ahead to produce prototype systems for the massive Corporate Headquarters Office Technology System project, worth an estimated UKP300m. Bids for the system have now been evaluated, and a decision on the two systems to be prototyped is due to be made tomorrow, Friday. The choice is between four consortia, which are led by British Telecom, GEC Plessey Telecommunications, ICL, and Thorn EMI Software Sciences, and Unix System V is a requirement for the 40 site, 24,000 user office automation system.
