A whopping bid of UKP151m secured the high-tech jewel in conglomerate BET Plc’s crown for General Motors Corp’s Hughes Aircraft subsidiary. BET has chosen Hughes as the new parent for its Rediffusion Simulation business, which has bases in Crawley, Sussex and in Arlington, Texas. The price is a very fancy one, because the military and civil aircraft simulator manufacturer is estimated to have made an operating profit marginally up at UKP10m on sales of UKP140m in the year to last week. Completion is expected next month. Hughes beat two UK firms, two continentals, and a Japanese.
