The growth of new technology has fed an increase in waistlines, Britain’s top scientists have been warned. Dr Andrew Prentice of the Dunn Clinical Nutrition Centre told the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science that while the population’s absolute intake of fat had fallen by 30%, the nation was becoming fatter because of the growth of labor-saving devices. Mobile phones, PCs and TV remote controls were all blamed for turning the country into a nation of fatties.
