In the wake of the collapse of the Communications Decency Act in the US, the UK government has revealed plans for a rating scheme on the internet to regulate its material. The government is working with Internet Watch, an organization established to eradicate pornography on the Internet, to implement the Platform for Internet Content Selection system which has already met with objection. The Internet Freedom campaign organization says ratings systems have a direct impact on Net freedom precisely because they are designed to restrict what users may see on the Net.
